CoC: Progress report 3/21/2025

After 13 days since the last report I'm back to bring the "weekly" progress report:

Visuals and effects (the interesting):

I'm in the process of completely rewriting the animation and effects systems for weapons, these now have the following features not present in Alpha:

1. Bullet shells now inherit velocity of the player character, making them a bit more detailed (the long awaited ut99 feature is finally here):

2. The new reworked effects system also allows for weapon animations, as shown with the pistol here (it is the only weapon made to work yet for the new system atm):

3. Updated wood bullet hole decals:

The technical (the not so much interesting):

1. Weapon system almost completely reworked, should be massively easier to work with in the future. The new system adds possibility to include weapon attachments, more detailed and robust weapon state transition (enemy-ground-player and in reverse), and more intelligent weapon use by NPCs.

Yeah this isn't a whole lot in terms of content but much of the work went into making content addition process as efficient as my dumb little brain can implement. Next devlog is (likely) in a week.

faq:

Why the game looks so bad compared to alpha?:

according to the holy indiedev immunity clause indev beta footage automatically shields me from all criticism while simultaneously allowing me to pretend this isn't what the final product will look like thus i invoke the fifth and refuse to elaborate further.
